Team McNair in the Pink at Monmore

QUEEN PINK starred as Liz McNair monopolised the heats of the BGBF British Bred Stayers over 630m at Monmore on Saturday, writes Jonathan Kay.

Kennelmates King Ezra (38.35sec) and Queen Gaga (38.43sec) had already landed their eliminators before Queen Pink’s heat three masterclass as she made just about all for a near-eight lengths victory over Funny Freddie in 37.80sec (normal).

All three McNair winners are from the January 2021 King Sheehan-King Danni litter.

Highlight of the undercard was a brilliant victory by Nathan Hunt’s Droopys Fidget in a 480m puppy contest.

He was quickly in control and came home more than eight lengths to the good of Crossfield Riley in 28.14sec.

Kevin Hutton landed a double courtesy of Rioja Joey (28.53sec) and Droopys Samantha (28.84sec), likewise Patrick Janssens with Hawkfield Ozark (28.43sec) and Coolavanny Shado (28.72sec).

There was also a smart winning effort from Richard Rees’s Churchfield Syd (28.36sec), with kennelmate Burnchurch Mick warming up for his Winter Derby defence with a 28.33sec (-10) premeeting trial.

However, Rees suffered a terrible loss when exciting prospect Kilara Dazzler had to be put down after suffering a serious injury in a 480m contest which was voided in the interests of safety.

Draw for Saturday’s £3,000 BGBF British Bred Stayers final: 1 Queen Pink, 2 Queen Gaga, 3 King Ezra, 4 Romeo Top Cat, 5 Funny Freddie (m), 6 Westwell Dora (m).
