Brandy to tot up another success

Paul Brown

CROKERS BRANDY has really hit form of late and is taken to complete a four-timer in the £500 final of the Arena Racing Company Stayers Trophy over 680m at Nottingham this evening, live on Bags/TRP at 8.36.

Paul Sallis’s dog has been showing excellent early speed in all his recent victories, and stayed well enough last week when holding strong-running Droopys Tess – withdrawn in season – by a length in a fastest-of-the-round 42.29sec last week.

If he again traps level, he looks set to just lead them round to assert in the middle part of the race and then see them all off.

Longacres Bullet was wellbacked for his heat last week but Pat Doocey’s dog did not run like a 4-9 shot, getting turned over by Blue Party despite heading her going into the fifth.

This trip might just be a shade taxing for him, and he will do well to give a start and beating to Crokers Brandy.

Blue Party is not the strongest stayer either, and it could prove a case of the first-bend leader effectively winning the race.

Work From Home has been beaten in decent times of late over the 305m trip, and Lynn Cook’s dog may be a spot of value to show what he can do now he faces a slightly easier task at 9.11 over the two-bend trip.

It is mainly a field on nonspecialist sprinters, and if starting well he can hold his pitch on the turn and kick into the lead.

The final race on the card is a cracker over 500m at 9.26, where a case can be made for most. Starcash Henry has a good chance to quickly claim the rails, but he has not excelled at Nottingham in the past so Bellmore Cricket gets the nod on the draw.

Barry Denby’s dog will need to be alert at the boxes, but if he is he can use his wide draw to full advantage to lead round.
