Stream runs them down in Gold Cup

STREAM OF SYDNEY set the standard with a 28.33sec success in the first round of the Paddy Kehoe Suspended Ceilings Gold Cup over 525 yards at Shelbourne Park on Saturday, writes Jonathan Kay.

Another Holiday led Pat Buckley’s bitch in the opener, but Stream Of Sydney turned in her wake and closed throughout before pouncing late for a length victory.

Buckley completed a quickfire double in heat two when Cloneden Flash proved strongest all-round in 28.75sec.

Irish Derby hero Born Warrior had to settle for second on his return to action, with Graham Holland’s Galloping Sydney seeing him off by two lengths in 28.50sec in the finale.

It was a creditable effort from the runner-up as he steered his trademark wide course, with Galloping Sydney always just looking to have his measure.

Other heats went to Tommy Buggy’s Kilgraney Sydney (28.69sec), Michael Daly’s Disco Pants (28.52sec) and Robert Gleeson’s Toolmaker Wilde (28.73sec).

At Curraheen Park, Graham Holland’s Ballyhimikin Leo (30,94sec) was fastest in the semis of the Two Wheel Training Open 575 Stake with the other going to Denis Fitzgerald’s Churchtown Syd in 31.24sec.
