I’m not supplying personal information to bookmakers

ON THE subject of these affordability checks, I am now 63, I have shares in several racehorses and have done for the last 30 years. My father raced greyhounds for years and my family interest in racing goes back to my great-grandmother.

I only gamble on horseracing because I enjoy the sport, particularly on a Saturday when I am not working and the big festivals like Ascot and Cheltenham. I don’t gamble on the football or at casinos, etc.

I was asked to supply financial information to bookmakers I was using, which I refused, explaining that I only supply this information to HMRC or any company I wish to borrow money from, so they have no right to demand this.

I have run my own business for the last 25 years so I understand about risk. I still use Paddy Power since I closed the accounts with other firms, but did business with all of them to give me access to the different odds that were available at multiple bookmakers.

I don’t see why I should supply such personal information to these firms if I am not borrowing money from them, and given I’m so busy, it is not worth the time worrying about it all.
