NEWCASTLE managed only a point from their supposedly must-win clash at home to Norwich but they can secure a long-awaited first victory of the season with a home win over Burnley, writes Dan Childs.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe has taken on a huge challenge and it became even tougher when Ciaran Clark was sent off just nine minutes into the midweek match.

Having to play short-handed for so long was a massive handicap but Newcastle’s ten men responded well and at least avoided a damaging defeat.

There was an intensity and organisation about a lot of Newcastle’s play and if they can keep a full complement on the pitch against Burnley, they have a good chance of winning.

Burnley got away with a 0-0 draw at Wolves on Wednesday after losing the shot count 16 to six but they are having a poor season and could be dragged into deeper trouble with a defeat on Tyneside.
