Neapolitan clash should entertain
By Harry Carr
Napoli v Atalanta 7.45pm
AN electrifying meeting is in prospect at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as Napoli take on Atalanta.
Despite conceding a 96thminute equaliser at Sassuolo in midweek, Napoli continue to lead Serie A by a single point, although Atalanta, who hammered Venezia 4-0 on Tuesday, could move within two points of their opponents if they can rack up a fifth successive league win.
Entertainment should be guaranteed. Even in the absence of injured hitman Victor Osimhen, Napoli thrashed Lazio 4-0 last weekend, but will have been left gutted by their late concession on Wednesday.
Napoli’s previously rocksolid defence has been creaking in recent weeks – they’ve conceded more goals in their last three Serie A games than they did in their first 12.
Whether Luciano Spalletti’s team have been shipping goals or hammering them home, each of their last three outings has featured at least four goals.
The visit of fourth-placed Atalanta, who have matched the league leaders’ tally of 32 Serie A goals, should mean more of the same.
Remarkably, of Atalanta’s last 13 competitive games, ten featured over 3.5 goals. They are unbeaten in eight league outings, and have won their last four, hammering Spezia 5-2 and Venezia 4-0, either side of a hard-fought victory at Juventus.
