Stipe position for Chown-Smith

FORMER Perry Barr and Romford general manager Carol Chown-Smith is back in greyhound racing having been appointed GBGB stipendiary steward for East Anglia, writes Jonathan Kay.

Chown-Smith has spent 20 years working within the sport and in her new role will be covering Romford, Harlow and Great Yarmouth stadia working with over 80 trainers in the area.

GBGB senior stipendiary steward, Paul Illingworth, said: “We are delighted to welcome Carol to the team. In her previous roles she has always championed greyhound welfare and will be an excellent addition to the GBGB field force.”

Chown-Smith said: “I’m very much looking forward to getting back into the industry and working with our wonderful athletes once again.

“My first introduction was applying for a part-time position at Perry Barr; it did not take me long to catch the racing bug and I worked my way up at the track before heading to Romford in 2010.

“With the launch of the welfare strategy next year, this is an exciting time to join GBGB and I look forward to playing a role in upholding the sport’s high welfare and integrity standards.”
