Talented Trumps looks to hold all the Olympic aces

Paul Brown

TRUMPS BENEFIT won the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup over 515m when last seen at Hove, giving a certain Brookside Richie a start and a beating, and can get his Coral Olympic tilt off to a winning one when he goes in heat three at 7.56 at the track tonight, live on RPGTV/SIS.

Hove’s gallop clearly plays to the strengths of Carol Weatherall’s powerhouse, and he has a peach of a draw with Aussie Captain inside him almost certain to lead round.

Patrick Janssens’ dog will surely come on for his outing last week when reeled-in by Magical Ezra, but this trip still seems a big stretch for him and he may serve to set a target for Trumps Benefit.

Bockos Belly, also from the strong Janssens kennel, would be a huge danger should he recover his best form, but he eased off into the opening bend on his return last week and might be best watched for now.

Trumps Benefit is clearly in rude health judging by his speed 29.87sec trial over course and distance and he can overpower Aussie Captain in the closing stages.

The aforementioned Magical Ezra put in a barnstorming effort to swoop in a trial stakes last week and will be hard to keep out of the frame in the final heat at 8.54.

However, there was a lot to like about the victory of Richard Yeates’s Lanzo on the same card and the in-form dog gets the vote to nip clear.

It is good to see the classy Faughan Rebel back from injury for Yeates in trap six, and at his best he would be the pick. It remains, though, to be seen if he will get back to where he was previously.

Warzone Tom steps down from six bends for heat four (8.17) having proved a cut above the opposition in the Gold Collar over 540m at Crayford.

That track and this could not be more different, but Liz McNair’s dog is shaping as though he is the sort who will go first time at a track.

He is flanked by rivals in Fight The Power and Candy Man who lack early speed, and it would be no surprise were he to do something special on the clock if he pings out.

Seomra Razzle will look to make the running, but stamina is not his forte and Warzone Tom can prove too strong.

Heat five at 8.38 looks a bit of a minefield, with Permanent Smile the only one of the sextet boasting proper early speed.

However, Matt Dartnall’s dog barely got home last time and may become a sitting duck for the finishers.

Best of those if he gets a run could be Borna Wine ,whohas been showing plenty of allround pace for Tony Collett and has trialled well over course-and-distance.

If Smurfs Machine brings his A-game – as when he gave Thorn Falcon a running lesson at Towcester recently – then he will be a big player in heat one

at 7.18, but all too often he brings the Z-game.

Sussex Cup champion Drumcrow Brent rarely runs a bad race so gets the nod, with Indesatchel interesting on the strength of his Irish card but looking to lack enough early.

Doghouse Dazzler maybe the answer to heat two at 7.36, with Nathan Hunt’s dog a better performer now than when he last appeared at Hove in the Seasons Scaffolding Puppy Cup.

The step up to 575m at Romford has worked well for him and in a race lacking early pace he is fancied to get loose at the opening bend and stay there.

Hove also has four trial stakes for the Coral Brighton Belle starting next week with the suggestions being Tony Collett’s Jurassic Rose (6.43), Kevin Huston’s Anniversary Girl (9.12), Seamus Cahill’s Pocket Lulu (9.28) and Belinda Green’s Bonjour Bullet (9.43), while John Mullins’ Burgess Elite could get first run on Aayamza Royale et al in a George Curtis & Ballyregan

Bob Memorial trial stake over 740m at 6.58.
