Who o will win the Wor ld Cup?

Argentina. My first World Cup memory was being allowed to stay up to watch Argentina 78 and backers of Messi and co may well be reaching for the ticker tape on December 18.

Germany look the best value at the current prices with one of the tournament’s few elite coaches in Hansi Flick and the core of an in-form Bayern Munich side who have been one of Europe’s best this season.

I’m sold on Argentina. The midfield was my main concern but there are enough ball-winners in there who can play a bit. Messi will win games on his own and the defence looks solid.

Brazil. They are one of the great Brazilian sides but I think they are the most solid all round with a bit of magic up front.

Of the favourites I think Argentina look the most solid option. It looks as though a coaching team full of former Albiceleste stalwarts has finally brought some cohesion to a previously disjointed team.

With such strength in depth in their squad Brazil are worthy favourites and the team to beat. Odds of 4-1 could end up looking very big come the final on December 18.

Argentina. Having won the Copa America, Lionel Scaloni has managed to build a team around Lionel Messi while creating a real team spirit. With some of the burden taken off Messi, they look the team to beat.

They have shortened in the last few weeks but I fancy Argentina to add the world title to their Copa America win. Lionel Messi is back to his best this term and a strong squad can cement his legendary status over the next four weeks.
