Who will finish as top goalscorer?

I’ve got as many goals as Lionel Messi in the knockout stages of a World Cup, but the great man can go out in style by not only bagging a few against weak opposition in the group but by finally breaking his duck on the way to the final.

Lionel Messi. Playing one of the tournament’s worst teams in Saudi Arabia in his opening match is an ideal draw for the great man, who has scored nine goals in his last three international friendlies.

Harry Kane. England’s group should be straightforward, while the last-16 match should present a decent opportunity for Kane to fill his boots. If all goes to plan England would avoid Brazil and Argentina until the final.

Neymar will be front and centre of everything Brazil do and I expect him to be thereabouts for the Golden Boot.

It’s tough for a player who doesn’t take penalties to scoop the top prize but Lautaro Martinez could fill his boots in a weak group.

In a formidable France team, Kylian Mbappe looks like he could take on the goalscoring burden with doubts over Karim Benzema’s fitness. He could start with a bang against Australia and quotes of 9-1 look pretty generous.

Lionel Messi. If Argentina are going to win the World Cup, Messi’s goals will be crucial. He will be looking to get up and running with a few in their first game against Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi. The Argentinian legend has been at his imperious best for PSG this season and has scored nine goals in his last three internationals. We expect him to score a third of Argentina’s goals and he can live up to that billing.
