Veterans ruling the roost in Diomed

WHAT is it with the Diomed Stakes and the old stagers? Twelve of the last 21 winners were aged at least six, with last weekend’s victor Regal Reality (below) the seventh eight-yearold to oblige during the same period. That’s some going for a Group 3 that’s open to three-year-olds and upwards. You get younger winners of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Watching young whippersnappers getting spanked by the veterans is always a joy to behold.
