Trust Morgan to get it right in February

I’M being brave by saying this given how severely cold this winter has been, but we are moving towards the spring and there are certain trainers who peak their string for this time.

Christian Williams immediately comes to mind and he almost got in a little bit earlier than normal when Cap Du Nord finished second in the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster on Saturday. However, he usually hits form at the backend of February so it’s worth waiting to follow him.

One trainer who always starts February well is Laura Morgan and she has a plethora of entries over the coming week which suggest she might be gearing up for another hot spell.

Since the start of 2018, Morgan has saddled 19 winners from 56 runners (34 per cent) over jumps in February and a £1 bet on all of those horses would have yielded a profit of £34.40.

Morgan is 3-5 with runners at Fakenham in that time and she won Thursday’s Fakenham Racecourse Supports Racing To School Novices’ Handicap Chase (3.50) last season.

Radetzky March was successful for Morgan last year and it looks significant that she has just one entry in the race this time and that is Big Changes. He was well beaten at Hereford on his latest start, but Radetzky March came off a similarly low-key run last year, so take the hint.

Musselburgh is the other track where Morgan has excelled and she is 6-9 with runners at the Edinburgh course in February since the start of 2018. She has five runners entered this week.

They Call Me Pete looks set for his handicap debut in the bet365 Handicap Hurdle (4.25) on Sunday and three of Morgan’s seven winners were having their first start in a handicap. That looks like a tip in itself.
