Weld’s Falcon can swoop to victory in the closer

The last two races Golden Gate Handicap 5.35, 1m2f handicap

WITHOUT REVENGE was well beaten when making his handicap debut at Sandown in April but that was over 1m and he looked a different horse over 1m2f at Newmarket last month.

Roger Charlton’s gelding took a while to engage top gear that day but he surged clear when hitting the rising ground inside the final furlong. He’s gone up 10lb for that but his dam was related to a couple of top-class performers and there’s more to come now that connections have found his optimum trip.

Alfaadhel is an interesting handicap debutant. He lacked the gears to seriously threaten on his debut over 1m at Newbury in April but has won two subsequent outings over this trip, most recently at Lingfield where he easily beat Sir Rumi. That rival went one better when reappearing at Haydock last week.

Irish Legend doesn’t do much when hitting the front but he made it three-from-four at Newcastle last month and is another to consider. 1 WITHOUT REVENGE 2 Alfaadhel

Queen Alexandra 6.10, 2m5½f conditions race

FALCON EIGHT has already secured one of the season’s big staying races and he can strike again.

Dermot Weld’s charge was gelded after a lacklustre 2020 campaign but he looked back to his best in the Chester Cup last month, coming from off the pace to beat The Grand Visir under Frankie Dettori.

That proved he is fully effective over extreme trips and he could be a class above these.

Stratum is another Irish raider to consider. He showed that staying was his game by landing the 2019 Cesarewitch and got back to winning ways at Gowran Park in April. A 1m6f Group 3 was an insufficient test of stamina last time out so that modest effort is easily forgiven.

Who Dares Wins took his losing streak to eight when down the field at Chester but he won this 12 months ago and could easily get a lot closer to Falcon Eight this time. 1 FALCON EIGHT 2 Stratum
