Third time lucky for Dream in speed test

Newmarket David Milnes

DREAM OF DREAMS is fancied to make it third time lucky in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

Sir Michael Stoute’s speedster has just been touched off in the final day feature for the past two years, most recently when going down by a head to Hello Youmzain in 2020.

Now a seven-year-old, Dream Of Dreams enjoyed a nice warm up for this when landing the odds in a Listed contest at Windsor last month and has impressed in his work on Long Hill since then.

At the royal meeting on Friday, Alenquer is fancied to make a successful step up in trip in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes.

William Haggas has some good chances across the week at the royal bash and his threeyear-old has some impressive form in the book having lowered the colours of subsequent Derby winner Adayar on his reappearance in the Group 3 Classic Trial at Sandown in April.

Since that victory, Alenquer has had a small setback which ruled him out of the Derby but he’s fine again now and won’t mind any easing of the ground which is forecast.

The same ground requirements surround Simon and Ed Crisford’s Flotus who is expected to maintain her unbeaten record in the Group3 Albany Stakes on the same day.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner put up a most spectacular performance when scoring on her debut on soft ground at Goodwood last month.

Since then, Flotus has been very professional in her work on the watered gallop and is expected to enjoy the track.

On Thursday, Roger Varian’s Lord Campari won’t mind any overnight rain ahead of the Buckingham Palace Stakes over 7f. The fouryear-old showed he handled soft ground last year when scoring in a novice at Newbury and he is entitled to come on for his comeback sixth behind Palace Pier in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes. Since then, he’s impressed in his work on the watered gallop and should enjoy this drop in trip.
