Road to the winner’s enclosure

MADDY PLAYLE

MAGIC WAND ran three times before her Ribblesdale triumph in 2018. She began the campaign as a maiden and found two horses too strong in at Leopardstown on her return, before connections tested her Oaks credentials in the

Cheshire Oaks.

She passed that test with flying colours, storming clear of Forever Together – who would go on to win at Epsom – in the style of a talented filly. Her stablemate reversed the form in the Oaks and she could only finish fourth, with Wild Illusion and Bye Bye Baby also finishing ahead of her.

The soft ground and track may not have been to her liking there, but she bounced back to form on good to firm ground at the royal meeting in no uncertain fashion.
