JAMES HILL

Looking for exposed types in this event would be completely the wrong way to go, and all of the last seven winning fillies had run no more than three times at two

You do need one who stays as well. Seven of the last ten winners had recorded a victory over at least 1m2f, while eight had a sire/grandsire with a stamina index of more than 11 furlongs.

While you don’t need lots of form in the book, the classier fillies still tend to come to the fore. Eight of the last ten winners had a rating north of 100, while Ireland has a great record with last-time-out Group winners in recent runnings.

Aidan O’brien has a pretty decent record full stop having won this three times since

2014. However, he’s got a way to go to beat Frankie Dettori’s record. Dettori won this six times between 1995 and 2010, although it’s been a while since his last success.

Verdict

Interesting to see which of the Oaks also-rans attempt to back up their Epsom efforts here. The filly it might suit most is Mehdaayih, who had no luck on the Downs and surely would have done better with a clearer passage. Rated 105, she has the quality to make amends.
