Inter look set to silence their porous city rivals

It is only two weeks since Inter beat their city rivals Milan 3-0 in the Italian Super Cup and they should be able to heap more misery on their rivals in Sunday’s big Serie A showdown.

Milan could go above Inter in the top-flight standings if they repeat the 3-2 victory they posted in the reverse fixture in September, but the teams have been experiencing contrasting fortunes in recent weeks.

Inter have been defeated just twice in the league since the beginning of October, but Milan have been desperate in the last couple of weeks.

Firstly, they were sunk 4-0 at Lazio, but then suffered the indignity of a 5-2 home defeat against Sassuolo, so a tally of 14 goals conceded in their last four matches speaks for itself.

Inter’s Argentinian World Cup-winning striker Lautaro Martinez should be licking his lips at the prospect of facing such a shaky defence after his brace against Serie A basement boys Cremonese took his tally to four in as many games.

It would take a brave punter to suggest Milan can keep Martinez and co in check.
