Resurgent Hammers may be edged out at St James’ Park

West Ham possess one of the stronger squads among the Premier League strugglers, but their away record has been poor and they could suffer a narrow defeat at Newcastle on Saturday night.

The Hammers eased some pressure and got their old boy Frank Lampard the sack last week as two goals from Jarrod Bowen earned them a 2-0 home win over Everton. That was their first win in eight and they will look to kick on.

However, they have taken just five points on the road all season and that is not a good sign when you are heading to St James’ Park, where before Tuesday’s League Cup semi-final against Southampton, Newcastle had not lost in 13 outings this season.

The Magpies have kept clean sheets in their last six Premier League matches, but three of their last four - against Leeds, Arsenal and Crystal Palace - have all ended goalless and their last home match was a 1-0 win over Fulham. STAT Five of West Ham’s Premier League away defeats have been by a 1-0 scoreline
