Napoli won’t want to loosen grip on top spot

Napoli returned to the Serie A summit in emphatic fashion at the weekend with a 4-0 hammering of Lazio and they can follow that win with a midweek victory over Sassuolo.

The Naples side have now won 11 of their 14 Serie A fixtures this season and have a threepoint advantage over their closest competitors Milan following Sunday’s matches.

Having midfielder Fabian Ruiz and forward Lorenzo Insigne back in the side helped their cause and they should be motivated to defeat a Sassuolo unit fresh from a shock 3-1 win over Milan.

That was, however, a fairly even contest and prior to that game the Black & Greens had won only two of their seven fixtures.

For the moment they are locked in mid-table obscurity and are facing a Napoli side who have been particularly dangerous on the road with five wins from their seven away games.

Napoli’s weekend triump should have lifted them and they can start to establish themselves as leaders once again with three points at the Mapei Stadium.
