Spireites could spoil Salford’s cup dream

TV executives tend to get excited about the prospect of putting Salford City on our screens, but there is a case to be made for National League leaders Chesterfield ruining the love-in in their FA Cup meeting on Sunday, writes Ian Wilkerson.

Admittedly, Gary Bowyer’s side are unbeaten in their last five games just when it seemed as though they could become embroiled in a League Two relegation battle.

However, the Spireites look to have a great chance of progressing to the third round as they have lost just one of their last 17 league matches and have scored 35 goals in those games.

They have failed to hit the net in just one of their last 14 away outings so it looks as though they will not be tempted to sit back and the Derbyshire outfit should not be dismissed.

Another fifth-tier team who can book their place in the draw are Yeovil, who can see off League Two strugglers Stevenage.

The Glovers have many cup shocks on their CV and they have lost just one of their last 11 matches.

Stevenage are three points above the League Two drop zone and beleaguered Borough look vulnerable after conceding 15 goals in their last five games on their travels.
