Dusty to spring forward and win the Sovereign

Champion trainer Patrick Janssens sends out yet another big-race favourite this week, with his CROSSFIELD DUSTY (pictured) lining up as the jolly for the £5,000 Greyhound Nutrition Sovereign Stakes final at Towcester on Tuesday night.

The sprint final over 270m is live on Racing Post Greyhound Television and headlines a card featuring the stars of the future in first-round heats of the £10,000 English Puppy Derby.

Crossfield Dusty was sensational in the prestigious Scurry Gold Cup at Perry Barr last month and is now chasing a seven-timer – he rightly heads the betting but the calibre of opposition is top class.

Laurels champion Havana Class is also the track record holder over two bends at Towcester and has a brilliant draw on the inside as the only railer. Seamus Cahill has a tremendous record in big finals at Towcester and his British-bred Pocket Lola was paw-perfect in heat and semi-final, and should she rocket from the boxes again the daughter of Droopys Sydney is certain to go close. Reigning Sprinter of the Year Shrewd Call is another undefeated finalist after two smart wins and cannot be ruled out in trap five. There is also £1,500 up for grabs at Harlow in the RPGTV Pinnacle Trophy, which kicks off on Wednesday night. Heat one of the 592m event can go the way of Paul Young’s OLD FORT TOKYO , who has been showing good speed in recent weeks and could be value to make all the running.

Jason Bloomfield’s VINEGARHILL JOHN is another fancied to dominate in heat two at 7.44.

He won well over 500m at Towcester last time and has winning form over course and distance in the book.

There is also a £500 final on the card from the Essex venue, which features the best bet of the week.

Dan Brabon’s RAGTIME STORM was comfortably the quickest heat winner of the Harlow Stayers Monkey last week and is beautifully drawn as a middle seed in trap five on the outside of four railers.

Romford raider Droopys Prunty rates as the fastest finalist with a clear run, but may struggle to get a run stranded out in trap four.
