Take Macho to show his best moves

STUART REDDING

WEDNESDAY HAYDOCK

MACHO MOVER (12.40) would be the best bet on this card if it survives a Tuesday afternoon inspection.

The six-year-old has benefited from the addition of a tongue-tie and cheekpieces recently, getting back to winning ways in a Newton Abbot seller before two narrow defeats back in handicap company.

He made his partner work hard at Market Rasen last time out but he kept plugging away and was only beaten half a length by the line. Stepping up to 3m can help him pull out more.

All five of those declared for the Introductory hurdle will have their fans

WEDNESDAY LINGFIELD

WINKLEVI (1.25) has finished no worse than third in his last six starts and should be thereabouts again in the 1m7f169yds handicap.

The six-year-old scored his most recent success in Jersey two months ago and has picked up minor honours in two subsequent outings back on these shores, most recently beaten just a head at Wolverhampton. A troubled run in the home straight arguably cost him victory that day and David Evans’ gelding should appreciate this new trip.

VANITAS (12.50) was a bit disappointing at Chelmsford last time out but she might be able to bounce back in the fillies’ handicap. but HARBOUR LAKE (2.20) is the one to beat.

He was well supported for his hurdles debut at Wetherby in October and didn’t disappoint, showing a good turn of foot to pull more than four lengths clear on the run-in. That form was boosted when thirdplaced Stream Of Stars scored at Ludlow last Monday and Alan King’s gelding has plenty more to offer as he develops.

LATE ROMANTIC (2.50) won the veterans’ chase last year and should make another bold bid.

He was out of his depth at Bangor three weeks ago but that should have boosted his fitness and he is now 4lb below the mark he defied in this contest 12 months ago.

Stepping up to 1m perhaps didn’t suit David O’Meara’s three-year-old that day and a short break suggests there might have been a physical reason for that defeat too.

She was only beaten a neck at Newcastle in September when last tackling 7f and a return to that form would give her every chance in this company.

SHOMOUKH (11.50) has recently joined Kevin Philippart De Foy and she is open to significant progress now that she moves into a handicap.

WEDNESDAY KEMPTON

BLUE ARTEMIS (7.30) took a huge step forward over this course and distance last time out.

Making her handicap debut with a new tongue-tie added, James Fanshawe’s filly quickened well to beat Chillsea close home. She could end up better than this in time.
