Spain lack a goal threat

SPAIN, like France, are going to get stronger as the tournament goes on though I’m not sure I’d be tipping them to smash Poland in Seville.

I thought Spain played some lovely stuff against a very obdurate Sweden in their Group E opener and wasted several chances.

And it’s that absence of potential goalscorers which makes me think they aren’t going to overpower teams. They are going to be very difficult to break down, but are they going to be winning games by two or three? I don’t think so.

I wasn’t particularly surprised by Slovakia beating Poland because the Poles have regressed in recent years and can’t continue to rely on Robert Lewandowski. Remember, Lewandowski looks a million dollars in the Bundesliga because of the service he gets at Bayern Munich, which is nothing like the service he gets in the national team.

But I thought the playing surface at Seville wasn’t good and is unlikely to improve. Couple that with Spain’s likely lack of goals and the Poles look a decent bet with a 1.25 start on the Asian handicap.
